Hydro-Québec entrusts its flagship data centre to Advanced fire systems

Data Centre Hydro-QuébecTo protect Hydro-Québec’s new data centre being built near Montréal, intelligent fire systems manufacturer Advanced has teamed up with Roberts Fire Protection (a division of Vipond Inc.) to provide fire protection to the installation.

Panda Enclosure at Kuala Lumpur Zoo protected by FFE

FFEKuala Lumpur ZooZoo Negara in Kuala Lumpur has installed FFE’s Fireray beam smoke detectors in the panda enclosure and viewing area. The detectors are designed to trigger a smoke spill fan in the event of a fire.

Because of the atrium’s high ceiling, conventional smoke detectors were not suitable for this installation,” commented Mr K. S. Yau of Prospect Safety Technology Sdn Bhd, the installation company. “A sprinkler system was also not an option due to their slower response times. Fireray Optical Beam Smoke Detectors Protect Oil Dispersant Warehouse

FFEfireray5000Oil Spill Response Ltd (OSRL) has installed three FFE Fireray 5000 auto-aligning optical beam smoke detectors in its oil dispersant warehouse in Southampton. The detectors were installed by Forward Control Ltd of Portsmouth.

Beam smoke detectors provide wide-area detection and are used when it is impractical, inappropriate or not cost-effective to use traditional point-type detectors. They are ideally suited to large interiors with high ceilings, such as warehouses, as they enable coverage of a large area at minimal cost. FFE’s Light Cancelation Technology Receives UK Patent

firerayffeFFE has been awarded a UK patent (Patent No. GB2513366) for its innovative new light cancelation technology for its Fireray range of infrared beam smoke detectors.

The technology works by actively monitoring ambient light levels on the detector and ‘subtracting’ them away from the ‘real’ signal. This allows the detector to work under the most difficult light conditions, including sunlight, sodium lamps and fluorescent lighting.
